Manager, Center for Academic Excellence

November 2020 - Present

  • Spearheaded the creation of the University of South Alabama’s Center for Academic Excellence, a tutoring center providing peer writing and subject- area support, workshops, and events aimed at improving student academic achievement.

  • Oversee training, development, and day-to-day work of 40+ writing and subject-area tutors.

  • Supervise a full-time Center for Academic Excellence coordinator.

  • Organize the daily tutoring schedule to ensure maximum in-person and online appointment availability for students who seek tutoring assistance.

  • Recruit tutors to provide academic support for diverse learners at all levels of the University curriculum.

  • Deliver 100+ presentations to classes and at campus events to promote the center’s services to students and faculty.

  • Organize and deliver 20+ academic success workshops per year on topics such as time management, effective study techniques, writing, and citation formats.

  • Utilize specialized software, such as EAB Navigate and WConline, to schedule services and assess program effectiveness.

  • Market the center to students, faculty, and staff.

April 2019 - November 2020

  • Supervised 50+ peer mentors, 10+ online learning coaches, and 10+ writing tutors.

  • Oversaw development of the Center for Academic Excellence, which required merging student academic support programs under a single, streamlined office.

  • Launched a peer mentoring program for first-year students in the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education and Professional Studies.

  • Supervised a full-time Student Academic Success coordinator.

  • Recruited and trained supplementary instructors and mentors from a variety of academic disciplines.

  • Contributed substantially to First Year Experience curriculum design and program development.

  • Served as a key member to the University of South Alabama’s First Year Experience Committee.

  • Collaborated with First Year Experience faculty and college coordinators to select and place first-year peer mentors (JagPALs) in First Year Experience courses.

  • Organized training and ongoing guidance for First Year Experience faculty.

  • Utilized specialized software, such as EAB Navigate and WConline, to mentor students, schedule services, and assess program effectiveness.

  • Co-Chaired the University Writing Committee, which oversees curriculum design and course approvals for USA’s Writing Across the Curriculum program.

  • Redesigned and administered USA’s Writing Across the Curriculum faculty development course.

  • Planned and promoted events, providing students with opportunities to learn about campus resources and develop necessary skills to succeed in college and beyond.

  • Oversaw operations of the Writing Center’s on-campus and online tutoring services, which provided writing tutoring services to all students at the University of South Alabama.

  • Provided instructional support for faculty by organizing professional workshops and outreach events.

  • Developed a fiscally responsible growth plan for the Writing Center by negotiating mutually beneficial partnerships with administrative stakeholders.

  • Served on the University Writing Committee and administered USA’s Writing Across the Curriculum faculty development course.

  • Assessed and reported on the impact of the Writing Center’s instructional activities and organizational effectiveness.
